Welcome back to all our children and whanau. A special welcome to all of our 7 children this term and their families. We enjoyed our first day back, the rain stayed away and we were able to explore Kindergarten all over again. Have a look at a few photos of our first day in the movie below. We look forward to sharing lots of our learning on the blog with you this term and receiving your comments.

Hot Cross Buns - Happy Easter

We had a special treat this week for our baking! Instead of scones we learnt about, and helped bake Hot Cross Buns. Beverly brought in her bread maker. We found a picture on the internet of Hot Cross Buns - so we knew how they should look at the end. We added water, salt, sugar, egg and most importantly YEAST to the bread maker. Half way through our baking - Geraldine Kindergarten Skyped us. We were able to share with Geraldine our baking experience. We shared our recipe, showed them the ingredients, and held the computer up to see it all being mixed together. It was to take an HOUR to mix and rise. The teachers and children of Geraldine wanted to see the finished product. When the hour of mixing was over there were eager helpers to roll the dough. This was the time to mix in the sultanas!! Yeah Right - our sultanas looked suspiciously like chocolate chips to me!! Unfortunately we ran out of time. However the next morning - we were at it again. More dough had been mixed and more helpers rolled out the dough. Then we created a flour and water mixture to create our crosses. Many of you had a go squeezing the bag and making lines of white dough to form the crosses at the tops of our Hot Cross Buns. The cooking of the buns filled the kindergarten with irresistable smells!! It was fantastic to share the warm hot cross buns as they came from the oven. We shared a mat time with Geralding Kindergarten who were able to view some of our hot cross buns. Geraldine - we highly recommend this backing experience - they were yummy!

Happy Holidays Everyone. See you again next term!

Ari's Ideas for the Easter Bunny

There was a lot of talking about the Easter Bunny today and chocolate! Some children wondered if the Easter Bunny would come to Kindergarten.... Ari had a few ideas and I asked him if he would like me to write them down. Ari's best idea was to leave a list of names for the Easter Bunny so he set to work copying all of the children's names (and Teachers!) at Manaia Kindergarten. Ari showed amazing concentration skills and persistence as he worked. Check out his amazing skills in the movie of photos below.... I can't wait to see if the Easter Bunny reads his ideas and leaves Easter Eggs for the children and Teachers!

Rubens Holiday

Ruben thanks for sharing your holiday with us. It looks like you had a fantastic time with your family. I went to Womad too, and really enjoyed seeing your pictures.

Horse riding at Manaia Kindergarten

Early this month, Jessi's Mum arrived at Manaia Kindergarten with Jessi's horse. Sometimes Jessi rides her horse home from Kindergarten and today, Timmy came IN TO Kindergarten to meet us. After coaxing him back outside, Jessi and Lotus told us all about Timmy, how Jessi keeps safe on her horse and what they need to do to look after Timmy. Since Timmy's visit we have had many horse rides at Kindergarten. There are horse races, horse riding, and horse jumps have been set up everywhere. Jessi and Chloe have been teaching us all (especially Beverly who loves the idea of riding horses) how to ride, to keep safe, to climb onto a horse and how to STOP a horse. They both have so much knowledge about horses. Here they are in action.

The Manaia Bike-a-thon

The sun was shining and the crowds gathered... The day we had been waiting for had finally arrived - our bike-a-thon day! Mums, Dads, Grandparents, Brothers, Sisters, Whanau and friends all came along to cheer us on as we jumped on our decorated bikes and scooters and rode around and around the track! What an amazing effort by so many children - red, hot, sweaty faces as they showed us their amazing riding skills. Josh (Holly's Dad) sizzled sausages on the barbecue to give us more energy and some of us continued to ride afterwards. After a long hour of riding we were presented with our certificates for our huge effort at our bike-a-thon. THANKS to all our whanau and friends for supporting us at this occasion. We look forward to spending our sponsorship money on science equipment for Kindergarten. Check out the movie of photos
- THANKS to Janet (Jakob's Mum) for putting this movie together for us. What great skills our parents are gaining!

Thanks for your patience - Here are the video clips from our Bike-a-thon day... What wonderful skills and confidence our children have on bikes.
