Picnic at Pataua

Monday the 17th was a glorious day - the evening sun shimmered across the inlet while families from Manaia Kindergarten gathered at Pataua to enjoy a meal together. The sounds of children playing in the water, running, chatting, exploring and laughing with their parents filled the air. It was a wonderful evening together. Thank you to the families who organised and to all the families who chipped in and enjoyed the setting sun together.

Manaia Kindergarten families love getting together and celebrating as a community. You can see the great times we had at our end of year party, and dad's get-together last year.

Drawing our friends

We have been discussing what it means to be a good friend and how we can be a good friend. We have talked about playing with our friends and being kind to them. We have learnt that we can don't have to play with the same people everyday but they are still our friends. We are so lucky to have lots of good friends at Manaia Kindergarten! Check out our amazing artwork - we have drawn pictures of our friends...

Climbing Mt Parihaka

After Liam's great climb of Mt Manaia last week we organised an adventure to walk up Mt Parihaka together on Sunday afternoon. We emailed other families to invite them and put up notices at Kindergarten. On Sunday we met at Mt Parihaka and begun our walk together. Cory even brought Nutkin along. Cory, Aimee, Liam and Niall showed amazing fitness and attitude as they walked all of the way to the top! I was most impressed with the Kindergarten children. Even my children enjoyed their walk with the children. Jordan hid under one of the bridges and pretended to be a Troll "Who's that walking over my bridge?" he called out as Liam and Cory walked over.... A great afternoon. Thanks to those families who joined us.

Anya Visits Lapland

Anya has been asking her Mum everyday to make a movie to share at Kindergarten. They decided to make a movie about her very special trip to visit Santa Claus in Lapland. Anya bought her movie in on a memory stick and asked if I could show it on the big screen at mat time. WOW we were all excited to see where Santa Claus lives and see all of the things that Anya experienced while she was in Lapland. Have a look at the movie.

Acrobats at Kindergarten!

What a busy group of children in the art area today. The plan was organised for a acrobat show and of course everyone needed individual tickets. The children wanted to name every ticket so came up with the idea of using the name tags to copy their names. They worked hard to write names on every ticket and then prepare lollies (made from paper) for the show. 1/2 way through session they announced it was time, time for the show. We all gathered around the swing frame to watch the acrobats in action. The first part of the show was a swing show and then came the monkey bar show where everyone was able to join in. We are continually impressed by the imagination of the children at Manaia Kindergarten, their ability to make plans, set goals and organise their day at Kindergarten. Check out their amazing writing skills too. Thanks to the acrobats for organising such a great show!

Liam climbs Mt Manaia!

At mat time yesterday Liam told me he was going to climb Mt Manaia after Kindergarten with his Dad. Mum and Nyall couldn't come - Mum has a baby in her tummy and Nyall is too slow for us, we want to go straight to the top without having a rest. Today Liam arrived at Kindergarten with his Mt Manaia photos on a CD which we went to play at mat time.... oh dear... no photos on the CD! oops said Mum! Luckily Sheelagh (Liam's Mum) was able to phone Mark (Liam's Dad) at home and emailed the photos to us (Yah for modern technology!). Liam worked with his photos to make a photo story, teaching his Mum the process along the way. We were all about to watch Liam's movie at mat time. Thanks Liam for sharing your adventure with us. I think I will go and walk up Mt Parihaka after work today.. I will take photos too!

Tanya Batt's Bicycle visit

Tanya Batt visited our Kindergarten today, arriving on a bike! What a fantastic storyteller Tanya Batt was! The whole audience was enchanted and the concentration skills of the Manaia children were amazing!
